Oil Bath Filters
The Oil Bath filter provides reliable protection for all types of engines where requirements make an oil bath installation desirable. It gives the maximum of filtering area within the smallest possible space and yet performs efficiently under the severe operating conditions encountered in the railroad industry. The Oil Bath combines the highly efficient viscous impingement principle of contaminant removal with a thorough oil scrubbing action which assures high efficiency at all times and at all engine speeds, from idle to full throttle. Oil bath filters were very widely used in automotive and small-engine applications until the widespread industry adoption of the paper filter in the early 1960s. Such cleaners are still used in off-road equipment where very high levels of dust are encountered, for oil bath air cleaners can sequester a great deal of dirt relative to their overall size, without loss of filtration efficacy or airflow.
Some of the functions of an oil bath filter are:
- Control baffle permits the oil droplets to wash to the top of the media throughout the entire range of air demand.
- Pressure drop remains practically constant during normal operating periods.
- Rectangular design reduces space requirements to a minimum in relation to the amount of air handled per unit.
- Exclusive positive seal design prevents any chance of oil bypass which can result in extensive engine damage.
